It's been awhile. And this will just be a short little post, since there's no possible way I can do justice to all that's happened in the past few months: a spring vacation in Hawai'i with Greg's parents, friends moving to town, a snowy June backpacking trip, going back to Iowa with my sister to say goodbye to my childhood home before my parents sold it, a lovely Peters family vacation in the Tetons and an equally lovely De Jong family vacation on Whidbey Island, good friends visiting, another good friend's wedding . . . nope, just too much going on.
So I'll post about a small thing: rearranging the house. We've lived here for more than three years now (hard to believe!), and have done a fair bit of rearranging already, to Greg's chagrin. He doesn't mind that things get moved; he just doesn't like to do the moving. Fortunately, as long as he helps me with the two-person stuff, I love doing everything else. :)
For the past three years we've been sleeping in the back room--not really a bedroom, but a room just off the kitchen and with two full walls of windows. It was a lovely place to sleep, but the disadvantage was that to get from the kitchen to the backyard, one had to go through our bedroom. Not ideal. So we decided to move ourselves upstairs to the Hobbit Room, and it's been marvelous. A few pictures for your viewing pleasure:
What used to be our bedroom is now a cozy lounging space . . .
The former office is now the guest bedroom (and movie-watching space, too):
And here's our Hobbit Room bedroom:
The new arrangement feels refreshing and seems to suit the house better, as though everything's clicking into place. There's still some decluttering to do, and some built-in bookshelves to build, and five thousand seven hundred and thirty-two other projects, but it's nice to have this done.
Ahhh.

Because the stairs are so steep, it is not possible to bring a box spring of any size (save a twin, I suppose) upstairs, so we are planning on building a queen-sized storage bed beneath the mattress.

I love it, Allison! It looks so great and cozy! We'll have to visit again to see the new guest bedroom :-)
ReplyDeletelooking good!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I love all the plants! It's funny, isn't it, how the projects just seem to multiply when you own a home. Sometimes fun, sometimes exhausting...glad you had fun with this rearrangement!
ReplyDeleteI love it!! (although it will be strange to not sleep in the hobbit hole when we visit...)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking from experience, the new arrangement works well for guests-- and the cozy sitting room/study worked for a few extra guests too. :-)
